Internal Medicine Residency Block Schedule

The Internal Medicine Residency Block Schedule consists of 26 blocks, each lasting two weeks. Continuity clinic occurs every seventh week, ensuring regular outpatient experience throughout the year. Rotations between continuity clinics vary in length and may span two, three, or four weeks. Internal Medicine residents rotate across three inpatient medicine teams at two affiliated hospitals: Tucson Medical Center and the Southern Arizona Veterans Affairs Hospital.
New Resident Orientation begins in early June, with clinical rotations running from July 1st through June 30th of the following year. The intern schedule is developed starting the week after the NRMP Match in March. Orientation includes comprehensive training and onboarding activities such as EPIC inpatient and ambulatory system training, ACLS and BLS certification, VA orientation including CPERS training, and resident-specific classroom instruction. Residents also complete self-paced computer modules, attend didactic sessions and grand rounds, and participate in social and institutional events including a Meet and Greet dinner with faculty, lunch with the Program Director and Associate Program Director, and New Employee Orientation.
