Internal Medicine Program

Tom BergeronThrough THMEP, Tucson Medical Center serves as a major teaching hospital for the University of Arizona Internal Medicine Residency Program. THMEP independently sponsored its own Categorical and Preliminary Internal Medicine Residency Programs from 1963 until 2003, successfully merging these programs with the University at that time. The Internal Medicine Residency Program includes a three-year Categorical Program, a Preliminary year program and both Internal Medicine/Neurology and Internal Medicine/Pediatrics tracks. Inpatient Internal Medicine rotations are conducted at Tucson Medical Center, University of Arizona Medical Center – University Campus and the Southern Arizona Veterans Administration Medical Center, with dedicated medical Intensive Care and Cardiac Care Unit rotation at University Medical Center. Other UMC rotations include medical consultation service and electives. Other SAVAMC rotations include Anesthesia, Ambulatory Care, Emergency Medicine, medical consultation and electives. Other TMC and associated community rotations include Emergency Medicine, Minor Emergency Clinic, Neurology, Community Medicine and electives.
