Tucson Medical Center is the largest hospital in Southern Arizona and is located in the northeast section of Tucson. Named one of the nation’s "Top 100 Teaching Hospitals" in 1995 by the Health Care Information Association, TMC serves as a busy community hospital, and as both a medical and surgical tertiary referral center for Southern Arizona and parts of northern Mexico. Tucson Medical Center is also associated with the Colleges of Medicine and Nursing at the University of Arizona.
A group of full-time inpatient physicians staff many of the patients on the medicine teaching service, with the remainder admitted by community physicians with a demonstrated commitment to community-based medical education. There are separate Intensive Care, Coronary Care, Pediatric Intensive Care and Neonatal Intensive Care units, in addition to a large Ambulatory Surgery Center. There is ample auditorium and conference space available for the many educational functions conducted at this hospital. The library is staffed by full-time librarians, and is well stocked with texts and journals. Access to major medical education networks is available for use by housestaff in medical literature searches and other academic activities.
