Internal Medicine Residency

Although affiliated with the University of Arizona College of Medicine since 1971, THMEP independently sponsored its Categorical and Preliminary Internal Medicine Residency Programs from 1963 until 2003.  On July 1, 2003, the Internal Medicine Residency Programs at THMEP and the University of Arizona merged, forming the University of Arizona-Tucson Hospitals Internal Medicine Residency Programs (UA-THIMRP).

The Internal Medicine Residency Program includes a three-year Categorical Program of twenty-one residents per year, six or seven Preliminary year residents and an Internal Medicine/Neurology resident.  Inpatient Internal Medicine rotations are conducted at Tucson Medical Center, University Medical Center and the Southern Arizona Veterans Administration Medical Center, with dedicated medical Intensive Care and Cardiac Care Unit rotations at University Medical Center.  Other UMC rotations include medical consultation service and electives.  Other SAVAMC rotations include Anesthesia, Ambulatory Care, Emergency Medicine, medical consultation and electives.  Other TMC and associated community rotations include Emergency Medicine, Minor Emergency Clinic/Specialty Clinics, Community Medicine and electives.
